An American degree, taught in Kathmandu
Model Institute of Technology (MIT Nepal) in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees affiliated to International American University in the USA.
Its students can begin an American degree in Nepal and transfer credits to IAU in the United States, with teaching built around case studies, hands-on computing, presentations and field visits. For many families, that combination is new: they know Tribhuvan University programmes well, but a US-affiliated college in Kathmandu is something they need to understand before they trust it.
What students come to MIT for
Why MIT Nepal came to us
MIT was competing on two fronts at once: against Tribhuvan University colleges that families already know, and against other foreign-affiliated colleges selling a similar promise. Students needed to understand what an American degree in Kathmandu actually means before MIT could make its case.
A degree families had to learn about first
Most Nepali students and parents grow up with Tribhuvan University programmes. A US-affiliated BIT or BBA raises questions about recognition, value, cost and careers that TU colleges never have to answer, and those questions were being answered by other sites.
BIT is a newer name than BCA or CSIT
Students searching for IT degrees know the TU options. BIT needed to be explained clearly enough to join that shortlist.
Other foreign-affiliated colleges
Several colleges in Kathmandu offer overseas-affiliated degrees, so MIT had to stand out within that group too.
Students start earlier than colleges think
Research begins with entrance exams and course comparisons, long before a student searches for a college by name.
AI answers
Students increasingly ask AI tools which colleges offer US degrees in Nepal, and those tools only cite sources they trust.

A new kind of degree needs more than advertising. It needs someone to explain it honestly, again and again, until families trust it. That is what we have been doing for MIT.
