The Real Problem
Every agency pitch sounds identical on the surface
Most SEO agencies in Nepal say the same three things: we get results, we are transparent, we care about your business. Almost none of that is verifiable from a sales call alone.
Finding the right one takes real research. Clear goals, checked results, and a strategy you actually understand, not a pitch you had to trust blindly. Some agencies promise fast rankings and shortcuts. Few of them use methods that hold up a year later.
This guide walks through setting goals, shortlisting agencies, checking their work, and reading the red flags most people miss until it is too late. We are a digital marketing agency in Nepal, and this is the exact checklist we would want a client to run on us.
Set Your Goals and Budget First
Vague goals get vague strategies back
Decide what you actually want: more traffic, more leads, better rankings in a specific city like Kathmandu, Lalitpur, or Pokhara. Set a realistic timeline too. SEO takes a few months to show strong movement, not a few weeks.
Set your budget by weighing what you can invest against the growth you actually expect back. Avoid vague goals, unrealistic timelines, and rock-bottom budgets. Quality SEO takes real time and real investment. Judge the return, not just the monthly price.
Build a Shortlist the Right Way
Google, referrals, and a quick gut check on their own site
Search Google, Google Maps, ask for referrals, check social media. Shortlist based on industry experience, location, client type, and reviews.
Before you even contact them, check their own website. Does it actually rank? Look at their real case studies with real numbers, and check their Google reviews. Look at their own social activity too, since it shows whether they practice what they sell.
Vet the Work: Portfolios and Case Studies
What a real case study actually looks like
Look at past work in your sector, not just promises. Have they worked with businesses your size, in your industry? Look for real traffic growth, real keyword movement, real conversions.
Case studies can be exaggerated, so verify. Search the client’s website. Check their current rankings yourself. Ask specific questions about the work, and watch for vague answers, since vague usually means thin experience.
A real case study reads like this: “After 6 months, their traffic rose 120%, 45 keywords hit the top 5, and inquiries doubled.” Numbers and a timeline, not just a happy client logo.
Check Reviews Like You Mean It
Fake reviews have a pattern once you know it
Read reviews on Google, Reddit, social media. Look for patterns: consistent praise for communication and results, or repeated complaints about delays.
Fake reviews are often short, overly glowing, light on detail, and posted in a burst from new accounts. Some Nepali agencies use AI to write reviews too, so a robotic tone is worth noticing. Real reviews mention specifics: a timeline, a real result, a real experience, not just “great service.”
Ask Direct Questions in the Consultation
What they will not answer tells you more than what they will
Ask about their strategy, tools, reporting process, and how they communicate. Notice how clearly they explain things, and how fast they respond. That is your working relationship, previewed.
Be cautious if they dodge direct questions, or call their strategy a secret. A trustworthy team explains its process plainly. Watch for guaranteed rankings in 30 days too, that is not a real promise anyone can make.
Ask something specific: if you run a business in Lalitpur, ask exactly how they would rank you for “best restaurant in Lalitpur.” Specific answers show real expertise. Vague ones are the warning sign.
Check Strategy Fit, Transparency, and Pricing
Your strategy should not be copy-pasted from another client
A good agency builds a strategy specific to you. What works for an e-commerce store rarely works for a local clinic. Different goals, different competitors, different audience.
Regular updates and clear reports matter, since you need proof your investment is actually moving. Be wary of reports full of jargon with no real numbers on traffic, rankings, or leads. If they only say “work in progress” without proof, that is a red flag.
Get the full pricing breakdown: content, technical fixes, backlinks, reporting, tools, all itemized. Check the contract length and the exit clause. A flexible agreement beats a long lock-in with no performance guarantee. Ask for a plain-language version if the wording gets complicated.
Signs You Found the Right One
What good actually looks like, day to day
They understand your business specifically, asking real questions instead of running a template. They suggest improvements proactively, instead of waiting to be told what to do.
You see small, real progress early: better rankings, more traffic, more inquiries, backed by simple, clear reports. They adjust the strategy as results and algorithms shift, rather than running the same plan on autopilot. And they are honest about pricing, with no hidden charges and no aggressive upsells.
Signs to Walk Away
The exact phrases that should end the conversation
“Guaranteed #1 ranking” is a false promise. Nobody controls Google’s algorithm. “Ranked in 1-2 months” for competitive terms is not realistic either. Expect 3 to 6 months for real movement, 6 to 12 for strong, competitive results.
No clear strategy explanation, or a “secret method,” is a real red flag. So is poor communication: slow replies, dodged questions, vague answers that get worse over months, not better.
Watch for pricing far under market. Some Nepali agencies charge as little as NPR 15,000 to 20,000 a month, often a sign of low-skilled work behind the scenes. Long, rigid contracts with no exit option are risky too, since you stay locked in even if results stall.
If they only talk rankings and never traffic, leads, or sales, they may be optimizing for the wrong thing. And if reviews or case studies cannot be verified, or they keep pushing unrelated services instead of solving your actual problem, walk away.

If an agency cannot explain its strategy in plain language, that is not a trade secret, that is a strategy that would not survive being explained.
Every client we have kept long-term asked hard questions in the first call. That is not a coincidence.
From The Team
K.K. Bhatta
K.K. started Queens Digital solo in Kathmandu, learning digital marketing from the ground up since 2016. Frustrated by how many businesses spend on marketing without seeing real returns, she built the agency around the opposite idea: honest strategy, clear communication, and marketing that actually works.
Usually 3 to 6 months for noticeable movement. Small improvements can show up earlier, but real, stable growth takes time because SEO compounds rather than spikes.
Both can work well. A local agency often understands the market and customer behavior faster, but experience, results, and communication quality matter more than location alone.
Many Nepali SEO agencies do offer social, ads, and content too. Check their actual track record in each service rather than assuming strength across the board.
Guaranteed #1 rankings, promises of fast results, unclear pricing, poor communication, long contracts with no exit, and refusal to explain their strategy plainly.
